LuJames "Gino" Groover III (born April 16, 2002) is an American professional baseball third basemen in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

Amateur career

Groover grew up in Morrow, Georgia and attended The Walker School in Marietta, Georgia.[1] Groover started his career at Charlotte before transferring to NC State. In his lone season with Charlotte, he batted with a .351 batting average with four homers and 14 doubles.[2] Groover's best season came in 2023 with the Wolfpack where he batted with a .976 OPS, he also racked up 13 home runs, and he was named Third Team All-ACC. Groover was also stellar in the NCAA Tournament, where he went 4-for-12 with two home runs in three regional games.[3] In 2022, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League.[4]

Professional career

Groover was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2nd round, with the 48th overall selection, of the 2023 Major League Baseball draft.[5][6] On July 18, 2023, Groover signed with the Diamondbacks.[7]

Personal life

Parents are LuJames II and LeSonya. He has two brothers, Marcus and Cordero and one sister, Ariana. Hobbies include playing video games and watching movies. He majored in communications.[8]
