MacAlarney died in 2016 at age 85 at Landis Homes. His wife Diann Corwin (whom he had been married to since 1949) preceded him in death in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his three sisters: Winifred, Audrey, and Judy, the latter of whom died in 2025. He is survived by his two daughters: Candyce and Susan, a son: John II, four grandchildren and sister Berniece.[2]
While viewers may not have known a lot about him or watched him on TV or listening to him on the radio, he would always be remembered for his 23 years at WGAL when he was part of the Golden Age crew.
