Gymnastics events have been staged at the Olympic Games since 1896.[1] Italian female gymnasts have competed in every Summer Olympics since 1928, except for 1932, 1964, and 1980.[2][3] In total, 80 female gymnasts have represented Italy.[4]
Italian women have won two team medals at the Olympics – the 1928 team silver and the 2024 team silver.[5] Vanessa Ferrari earned Italy's first individual medal, a silver on the floor exercise, at the 2020 Olympic Games. At the 2024 Olympic Games, Alice D'Amato became the first Italian female artistic gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal, securing the gold on the balance beam.[6][7]
Monica Bergamelli, Vanessa Ferrari, and Miranda Cicognani are the only Italian female gymnasts who have competed in at least three Olympics, with Ferrari having competed in four.[8][9]
