History

On 25 May 1944 at the end of World War II, amid the Liberation of France, Ménessaire was one of the communes in the Morvan attacked by the German occupying forces because several of its inhabitants supported the French Resistance.[4] The Duc family had sheltered a number of Maquisards, an act for which their farm was burnt down by the Germans, after the Maquisards had fled.[5]
