The surname Mainwaring (/ˈmænərɪŋ/ or /ˌmeɪnˈwɛərɪŋ/) is an Anglo-Norman territorial surname deriving from "Mesnil Warin" (or "Mesnilwarin", "Mesnilvarin", "Mesnil Varin"), from the village of Le Mesnil Varin (= "the manor of Warin"), now Saint-Paër, Normandy.
