Gameplay

Psycho Patrol R is a first-person shooter set in a cyberpunk-themed alternate version of Europe. The player takes control of a police officer who pilots a mech called the V-stalker. They are sponsored by a satirized version of the European Union to eliminate "psychohazards" and propaganda; missions are given throughout the game to carry out this goal. Most enemies are killed in one attack, but in turn, most enemies can also destroy the mech in one hit, leading to battles lasting only a few seconds. Collateral damage from combat usually results in civilian deaths. The death of enemies and civilians drop money for the player to collect. This money allows the player to purchase mech upgrades and weapons, but may be dropped on death and disappeared by another.^{[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]}

Development

Psycho Patrol R is published by Ville Kallio, the Finnish solo-developer of Consumer Softproducts, who also developed the 2021 video game Cruelty Squad. Psycho Patrol R released in early access on 24 March 2025.^[4][8][9]

Reception

Paste called Psycho Patrol R's gameplay frustrating, but its graphics and aesthetics unique, driven by "the singular whims of creatives rather than by a committee of suits".^[1]
