Variants of LGBTQ
- 2SLGBTQI+[7]
- GBT or GBTQ[8] – variant omitting "lesbian", typically when referring only to men.[9]
- GLBT – Commonly used instead until the 1980s. The L was placed first in honor of lesbians who provided care and donated blood during the AIDS Crisis, and LGBT became the dominant spelling.[10][11]
- HBTQ – homosexual, bisexual, transgender, and queer.[12] More common in Swedish.[13][14]
- ITNB+ – intersex, trans, non-binary, and gender nonconforming.[15] More common in Portugal.[16]
- LBT or LBTQ,[17][18][19] – variant omitting "gay", typically when referring only to women.[20]
- LGB or GLB[21] – lesbian, gay, and bisexual.[22][23] In the 21st century, the term became associated with anti-trans groups such as LGB Alliance and #DropTheT.[24][25]

- LGBTTT or LGBTTTIQ,[50][51] with TTT standing for transgender, transvestite (or travesti), and transsexual.[52][53]
- LGT, GLT, or GLTT – referring only to monosexual and monoromantic identities.[54][55] More common in Brazil around the middle of 1990s.[56]
- LGTB or GLTB – more common in Spanish.[57][58][59][60]
- QUILTBAG, with U standing for undefined, unlabeled, or unsure[61][62]
- TQI+, QTI+, or QIT+, meaning queer, trans, or intersex, and other groups.[63][64][65][66]

- GSRD, GSD – gender and sexual (and romantic) diversity
- SGM, GSM, GSRM – gender and sexual (and romantic) minority[67][68][69]
- SGMY – sexual and gender minority youth.[68][70]
- MOGAI or MOGII – marginalized orientations, gender alignments and intersex[71][72]
- SOGI – sexual orientation and gender identity.[73][74]
- MVPFAFF – Māhū, Vakasalewa, Palopa, Fa'afafine, Akava'ine, Fakaleitī (Leiti), and Fakafifine (identities in the Pacific Islander community)[75]
- SOGIE – sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.[69]
- SOGIESC – sexual orientation, gender identity and (gender) expression, and sex characteristics.[76][77]
- SSOGIE – sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.[69]
Same gender attraction
- MLM / WLW – men loving men / women loving women (or non-binary people), regardless of sexual or romantic orientation as gay, bi, pan, etc...[78]
- MSM / WSW – men who have sex with men / women who have sex with women. Used primarily in public health as a behavioral category distinct from sexual orientation.[79][80][81][82]
- NBLNB – non-binary loving non-binary.[78]
- SGA, SSA – same-gender attraction, same-sex attraction[83][84][85]
- SGL – same-gender loving. This term is used by some in the Black community to avoid identity terms considered Eurocentric.[77][86]
Sex and gender
- AFAB – assigned female at birth
- AGAB/ASAB – assigned gender at birth / assigned sex at birth.[87]
- AMAB – assigned male at birth
- DSD – disorders of sex development (or differences in sex development).[88] Describes intersex variations. The former is considered pathologizing by some intersex people.[89]
- FLINTA* – German acronym of frauen (women), lesben (lesbian), intersexuelle (intersex), nicht-binäre (non-binary), transgender and agender.[90]
- FTM/MTF – female-to-male or male-to-female respectively. Considered outdated; trans man and trans woman are preferred.[91][92]
- FFS – facial feminization surgery
- GAC – gender-affirming care; the medical aspect of gender transition
- GAHT – gender-affirming hormone therapy
- GNC – gender non-conforming
- NB (sometimes spelled "enby") – non-binary.[93] Occasionally confused for "non-Black" (also abbreviated NB).[94]
- PGP – preferred gender pronouns. Sometimes proscribed in favor of just "pronouns", to avoid implying that one's pronouns are just a preference, or that they necessarily indicate one's gender.[95]
- PTP – person with a transgender parent[86]
- SOGIESC – initialism for Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity/Expression, and Sex Characteristics.[96]
- T4T – trans for trans; transgender people primarily or exclusively seeking relationships with other transgender people.[97][98]
- TGD – transgender and gender diverse[99][100][101]
- TGE – transgender and gender expansive[102][103]
- TGI – transgender, gender diverse, and intersex.[104] The term is also inclusive of people who identify as transsexual.[105]
- TGNC – trans and gender nonconforming[86]
- VSC – variations in sex characteristics. An alternative term for intersex variations.[88]
- XtX, XtF, XtM,[106] FtX, MtX,[107] FtF, or MtM,[108] alternative terms that are used in place of FtM or MtF[109]

- GSA – gay-straight alliance, or genders and sexualities alliance.[110]
- GLA – gay and lesbian alliance[111][112]
- GLOW – "gay, lesbian, or whatever"[113][114]
- QPR – queerplatonic relationship; committed intimate partnerships which are non-romantic[115]
- QPOC – queer people of color.[116]
- QSA, meaning queer-straight alliance.[117][118]
- QTPOC/QTIPOC, standing for queer and trans people of color or queer, trans, and intersex people of color.[86][119]
- QTWOC, standing queer and trans women of color.[120]
