Sanjay Prasad (born 23 May 1971) is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, from the 1995 batch.[1][2][3]
Appointed as Principal secretary (India) in the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2022, Sanjay Prasad is reportedly very close to Chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The Yogi government has entrusted him with the crucial responsibilities of Principal Secretary Home and Information.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

Early life and education
Sanjay Prasad was born on 23 May 1971 in Sitamarhi district, Bihar. He holds a Master of Arts degree. Having cleared the Civil Services Examination (India) in 1995, he joined the Indian Administrative Service.[10]
Career
Sanjay Prasad has served in various roles within the Government of Uttar Pradesh, including as District magistrate of Lakhimpur Kheri district, Maharajganj district, Bahraich district, Ayodhya, Firozabad district, Agra, and Prayagraj. He has also held the position of Secretary in multiple departments. Currently, he is the Principal secretary.[11][12][13][14][15]
Known as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's "right-hand man and most powerful bureaucrat in Uttar Pradesh," Prasad's influence has been significant. His role came under media highlights when the Election Commission of India removed him from the position of Principal Secretary during an election period.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22]
