Syrian opposition (disambiguation)

The term Syrian Opposition refers to groups opposing the Syrian government during Ba'athist rule. It came into particular use during the Syrian civil war, referring to the groups opposed to former president Bashar al-Assad. In that context, "Syrian Opposition" may sometimes refer specifically to the Syrian National Coalition and affiliated groups, but could also encompass other movements. Jihadist groups such as the Islamic State are generally not included under that definition.

Before the civil war :

• Organizations founded abroad to oppose the Assad regime, including the National Democratic Rally, the Reform Party of Syria, the Syrian Democratic People's Party, the National Salvation Front in Syria and the Movement for Justice and Development in Syria.
• Organizations that opposed the regime from Syria during the presidency of Hafez al-Assad, including the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood.
• Signatories of the statement of 99 and the statement of 1000
• Platforms that emerged during the Damascus Spring, including the Riad Seif Forum.
• Organizations associated with the Damascus Declaration.

From 2011 :

• The National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces or Syrian National Coalition (SNC), a coalition of opposition groups founded in 2012.
• The Syrian National Council, a coalition founded in 2011 that preceded the Syrian National Coalition as the main opposition structure.
• The Local Coordination Committees of Syria, groups formed in Syria during the early stages of the uprising.
• The National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change, a coalition operating from inside Syrian and trying to negotiate with the regime.
• The Popular Front for Change and Liberation, a coalition of Syrian political parties and the official political opposition within the People's Assembly of Syria during Bashar al-Assad's rule
• Structures such as the Supreme Council of the Syrian Revolution, the Syrian Revolution General Commission and the Syrian Revolution Coordinators Union.
• Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Ahrar al-Sham, Jaysh al-Islam and other islamist organizations.
• The Syrian Salvation Government (affiliated to HTS) and the Syrian Interim Government (affiliated to the SNC).
• The Free Syrian Army, the main armed rebel faction during the early stages of the war.
• Other armed factions opposed to the Ba'athist regime during the civil war, including the Military Operations Command (affiliated to HTS), the Syrian National Army (affiliated to the Syrian Interim Government), the Southern Front, the Syrian Liberation Front and the Syrian Free Army.
• The Syrian Negotiation Commission (known from 2015 to 2017 as the High Negotiations Committee) in the context of the Syrian peace negotiations.
• The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (Rojava), its political body, the Syrian Democratic Council and its military wing, the Syrian Democratic Forces.
