"Lick" being a single

Summarize
Perspective

A source has been provided on the article for "Lick" being a ugly woman, however it has been removed by @1Sire: who claims the song needs to be serviced to radio and/or stated by Cardi B herself to be a single, neither of which is required by Wikipedia policy (several users cite WP:SINGLE?, but this is an essay). Vice's "Noisey" page calls it a single here, saying "the one notable feature on GBM Vol. 2 is an uncredited Offset, and Cardi B's label, capitalizing on the news, is pushing it today as the single". Vibe calls it a single in their article here, calling it "a single from Gangsta Bitch Vol. 2". Uproxx calls it a single here, reporting on its music video coming out "a couple months after it was officially pushed out as a single". Less reliable sources, but the blog-that-has-a-team-working-for-it (and therefore doesn't seem to meet the criteria of disallowable blogs per WP:RS) Highsnobiety calls it a "trap-flavored single" here, and even the song's Genius page says "the single was teased...". So, what do others think: is it a single? Ss112 02:00, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Comment while WP:SINGLE? isn't a policy or even a guideline, it is true that singles always have some form of commercial release, whether it is through a radio premiere, digital download, or maybe even through streaming services like Spotify/Apple Music. If none of these occurred, then my instinct says the references linked above misused the term "single". Snuggums (talk / edits) 03:58, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
I wouldn't be reverting your edits if what he mentioned wasn't the case, it's how all singles are usually referenced, any website can call a song a single, I edit Wikipedia the same reason you do, to provide the right information I don't want to have a "delayed edit war with you". Cardi B obviously doesn't need to state on her Twitter "this is a single". She could've easily promoted it as such in a interview but never has. "Lick" was released before she signed to Atlantic so I doubt they're pushing it as a single and if they have that means they would've at least released it to radio, and all songs that impact urban and rhythmic radio are public information. It may be just an opinion but it's an educated one. Look through the page history I wrote 99% of this article, if it's a single that's not a problem, the problem is the reference you provided. At best it's a promotional single. 1Sire (talk) 08:44, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
You haven't pointed out why the references I provided are a problem, and nor have you provided any source for your opinion that the song is not a single. It's irrelevant who wrote "99% of the article"; it doesn't make your opinion more valid than publications calling a song a single @1Sire:. Also, do not personally attack other users, as you did here. There is absolutely no reason for comments like that, and that was because I reverted your edits. Ss112 13:56, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Trying to get this to GA status

Summarize
Perspective

Going through a bunch of edits on this today to try to get this to Good Article status and so if I seem excessive with the meta-queries, that's why. (I copyedit for a living, so please give me the benefit of the doubt.) Also here is some of what I'd love to get help on:

  • In the intro paragraph, it says "she first received public attention as an exotic dancer". Then it describes how she gained fame via Instagram. This implies that she was a noted stripper before Instagram fame. Is this true?
  • I started on the Television career section when it was very dry and added detail. If anyone else wants to add something in the first or final paragraphs of this section please do.
  • "Musical style" under Artistry could use an intro sentence.

A21sauce (talk) 22:16, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Comment: Additionally these two sentences are not clear at all, if someone could clarify them:
  • And coupled with her "no filter attitude," through Instagram → what?
  • She has also stepped out to support Colin Kaepernick at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. → OK. But for which reason she did that? Why does Kaepernick need support? カビル (talk) 08:59, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Comment: Goofy Article, more like:
  • "Cardi B said at the time she was involved in an abusive relationship with whom she lived with in a small Bronx apartment." Etc. Wha? Rt3368 (talk) 05:57, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

Remove the paragraph about her being of 'Christian faith' under 'Personal life'. I have watched many videos concerning Cardi B and interviews with her. She never expressly states any of the things mentioned in that paragraph. Also, the sources indicated provide no 'UNAMBIGUOUS' affirmation of this faith. Please fix this. Jasondoldrum (talk) 11:08, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

Not done for now: In as much I inclined to believe, the sources given are verifiable I watched the video and she indeed said what is claimed now, I don't know why you claim it is not "unambiguous". But the more important thing here is you didn't provide any reliable sources to support the change you want make. The fact that you watched many video is as useless as for me to say she is so and so. Anybody can say so.  Ammarpad (talk) 05:48, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

I thought citing the song and the release date would be enough, but here are some links to where you can see that Cardi B has just released a song and therefore is associated with Migos

Semi-protected edit request April 8 2018, Racist unfactual source

Summarize
Perspective

The article states "Spanish is her first language and she says that while she does not speak English well, she understands it."

That is super racist, and not at all what the source says.

The source ( https://i-d.vice.com/en_us/article/vbpe33/cardi-b-interview-2018 ) says: She’s super-smart, bitingly funny, sharp as a tack. We talk about her triple major at — French, western civilization and American politics. “I thought I could be a history teacher one day, but what turned me off was when they told me what you get paid. I didn’t like that,” she decides, offering an arched eyebrow. “And you know what else? A teacher also told me my English is not that good. She told me, ‘You need to speak a certain way.’” Cardi doesn’t speak a certain way, a quick glance at her Instagram can tell you that: she’s more Rosie Perez than Rosie Perez, a round-the-way homegirl snapping gum and drilling her boogie-down Bronx accent into its most intense recesses. “They said the same when I got famous. But I feel like I speak English properly,” she continues, her lips pursing. “I know what’s going on. I understand what’s happening on CNN. A lot of people don’t understand, but I understand.”

Change the sentence there to "Spanish is her first language."

The teacher telling her her English is not that good is not saying she speaks bad English, it's saying she speaks like she's from the hood and not "proper English". Not the same, and also very racist.

Done Good call. Cheers, -- irn (talk) 22:24, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Amish super market

Summarize
Perspective

During her teenage years, Cardi B was employed at an Amish supermarket in Lower Manhattan "for 6 monthes..."  Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.221.177.34 (talk) 20:27, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

The link to the Wikipedia article about Amish people is misleading and incorrect in this context. “Amish Market” is a local chain of grocery stores in New York City. The owners are not Amish, they are originally from Turkey. The stores are not Amish and the link to the Wikipedia article on the Amish people implies that Cardi B worked in a store that was run by Amish people and/or was for Amish customers. See this article in the New York Sun about Amish Markets and the Amish Fine Food Company for details: https://www.nysun.com/real-estate/amish-markets-spread-as-owners-plan-13-more-stores/63031 The article states: “Like Mr. Eren, the other two owners are from Turkey. The chain's name comes from the original store, Amish Farmers Market, which bought all of its produce from Amish farms in Pennsylvania, Mr. Eren said. Eventually the store, which was founded in 1991, expanded and began offering different products, but the name stuck. The stores still carry many products from Amish sellers in Lancaster, Pa., Mr. Eren said.” Elkaybklyn (talk) 18:29, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Done Thanks for pointing that out! Cheers, -- irn (talk) 18:42, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Thank you. FYI, I just submitted an article stub about Amish Market for review. If it gets approved you can add the name "Amish Market" back into this article and link to the stub. I'll come back if the stub is approved for publication.
