Martial arts

Why does "Akarui-Do" link to Chinese martial arts? It sure looks Japanese to me, and the Chinese MA page has no mention of Akarui-Do. --66.81.125.120 04:49, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't know, but Mr 204.85.194.204 is an idiot for making that edit. -- 76.229.132.118 (talk) 08:25, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
btw, "Robert [David Margolin] created a hybrid style, a mix of aikido and Muay Thai called Akarui-Do" ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30072993/page/2/ ). -- 76.229.132.118 (talk) 08:34, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
I removed the entire sentence since it was unsourced. Someone can add it back if specific sources can be provided. Thanks! Plastikspork (talk) 15:31, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Robert David Margolin WAS Jillian's martial arts teacher. And she got a black belt in Akarui Do. She continued to study in other styles, but that is what she achieved her black belt in. She trained with him from 12 years old to 21 and it's well documented in pretty much every interview she has done as a public figure. 75.84.218.91 (talk) 00:59, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

there isn't a single return on any search engine that mentions this so-called martial art that isn't quoting michael's self written bio. is some guy giving her a black colored belt really a "black belt" by any objective standard? how are we not all black belts by this standard? Wiki standards are very strict on certain objective data and very accommodating on other subjective data.

why, there can't be an entry on a celebrity??? it's not as if wikipedia is a serious reference. this is wikipedia at its best...obscure information on a famous hot chick. What should be removed from wikipedia is the attempts at being a serious reference that end in failure, like the hawaii entry that talks about how the validity of its statehood is supposedly in question. ((eye roll)) I still want to know if myspace.com/jillianmichaels is really her?96.238.218.113 (talk) 23:59, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Junk e-mail ??

Most web sites are on shared servers - it may have been one of the other sites on the same IP that was the source of the spam. Just flagging the IP # seems unfair without some evidence that her web site was the source (i.e. what was in the spam?). For example, http://www.shosexualhealing.com/ is on the same IP... The referenced alt.abuse posting was Feb 2007, and the intermediary domain name seems to have been inactive for some time. I'm not a fan of Jillian, but I do like accusations to be documented... DVDs

her DVD set could be added to this article. Peter 12:29, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

remember, that wikipedia is not an advertising board, so it's not important! Markthemac (talk) 20:29, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

myspace?

Is www.myspace.com/jillianmichaels an official site of her??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.116.105.187 (talk) 05:28, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

"fitness expert"?

What are her professional and academic qualifications to be labeled a fitness expert? There is nothing on her website about any professional training in medicine, physiology or psychology and none of her publications are peer-reviewed. There is no mention of any college degree. She is undoubtedly an author of popular fitness books, but that is not a standard to be considered an expert. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.166.74.48 (talk) 04:42, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

She holds FOUR certifications in fitness. Owned a sports medicine facility. Did continuing education programs for AFAA when they were certifying trainers. https://www.afaa.com/courses/jillian-michaels-ceu-corner-mind-body-fitness

Diet pills

Shouldn't something be said about this: http://www.jillianweightloss.com/?cid=09TI11PS16G&s_kwcid=TC%7C16176%7Cjillian%20michaels%7C%7CS%7Ce%7C4244458200 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.189.96.81 (talk) 20:37, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Seems that website is too old now and the link doesn't work. She has a new website now. Her views also may have changed since 2010 2405:9800:BC31:E3E0:2166:6DB7:D210:E0E5 (talk) 02:27, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Personal Life

OK everyone - until the information that has been repeatedly added and removed can be corroborated by a reliable source (and I'm not talking about Perez Hilton) - can we please stop re-adding it? Michaels herself has not made a statement regarding who she is or is not dating or living with, and per WP:BLP and WP:GRAPEVINE, statements that could be considered libelous must be left out of articles unless they can be sourced. Petitscel (talk) 03:53, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

And, now semi-protected for 3 months. Please discuss here, rather than engaging in WP:BLP violations. Thank you! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:50, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

She is probably bisexual. Is this a good source? Yellowneonbrains (talk) 00:16, 24 April 2010 (UTC) Please add that she is admittedly bisexual http://current.com/18o8g4c

She is gay and has identified repeatedly as gay, most recently on The Megan Kelly Show, episode 558 dated May 26 2023 so there is no ambiguity whatsoever. Campfool 01:31, 26 May 2023 (UTC)  Preceding unsigned comment added by Roysatx (talkcontribs)

Notability?

Is this person notable enough for an encyclopedia? --UnicornTapestry (talk) 04:06, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

  • Very much so. She's a pretty major TV star in the United States. Haikupoet (talk) 16:38, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Birth date

The reason for removing the birth date falls under Wikipedia policy. First of all, Wikipedia disallows IMDb which consists of often wildly incorrect, user-submitted content as a reference source, including for birth dates. Secondly, once an inaccurate or unconfirmed birth date gets into Wikipedia, it starts to get disseminated and eventually a reliable journalistic source is going to get fooled, publish it, and then that inaccurate or unconfirmed date will get the imprimatur of an RS. Having someone's age and birth date be correct is extremely important from the basic biographical point of view. That's why the policy at Biographies of Living Persons allows for immediate removal of uncited personal claims. --Tenebrae (talk) 22:29, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
