Vandalism watch

Summarize
Perspective

I'm not sure how many instances of vandalism to an article are needed in a certain timeframe in order to warrant protection, but I'll just keep them here for the record anyway just in case! List below:

Feel free to add any instances of vandalism (in the form featured) to the list for the records. Andre666 (talk) 18:03, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for doing this—seems like a good idea; the number of anonymous/unconstructive edits is fairly high. We should be careful what we brand as vandalism, though. See WP:NOTVAND. I'm not 100% clear on all this but I guess it's possible that calling someone "the awesomest person ever" is just a lack of understanding of NPOV etc. Also see Wikipedia:Rough guide to semi-protection for guidelines on protection. —Noiratsi (talk) 10:13, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Okay, perhaps it's not 'vandalism' per sé, but it is 'a reason for semi-protection', no? Just something I'm worried about with this article. Andre666 (talk) 10:48, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
So... I've lost track of this, haha! Andre666 (talk) 22:18, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

VidStatsX

Hey. A bot user has removed the references for VidStatsX. Is there any alternative other than out-of-date news sources? Need that website! Andre666 (talk) 09:32, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

http://www.youtube.com/tobuscus is the only accurate source for subscriber count, and until he upgrades to the new channel, is also a source for video views and joined date. 117Avenue (talk) 04:51, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
It might be accurate, but I thought we couldn't use it because it's not an independent source? Andre666 (talk) 08:12, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
An independent source is going to interpret the number the same way. No matter who you are, 3,195,245 will always be over 3.1 million. WP:CALC allows us to do that. 117Avenue (talk) 04:16, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Non-primary source notes

Summarize
Perspective

Just my look at sources which are not primary to establish notability.

  1. "Toby Turner". VidCon. September 25, 2012. two sentences, appears to be a copy & paste ad blurb, as google finds the sentence on multiple sites. No author name.
No author name is irrelevant, and while it might "appear to be a copy and paste" it is still published independently. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. Shelby Webb (May 15, 2012). "UF grad gains popularity on YouTube". The Independent Florida Alligator. student newspaper.
Student newspaper or mainstream newspaper, it is independent of the subject. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. James Montgomery (September 21, 2007). "'Don't Tase Me, Bro!': Remix, T-Shirts Help Tasered Kerry-Speech Agitator". MTV. selling shirts for Andrew Meyer (his friend) the taze me bro guy for money.
I... don't know what point you're trying to make here. Obvious independent source. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. Meet Toby Turner: A YouTube Sensation". Spreadshirt. primary source, "Shop Partner Spotlight".
I see your point, but it can also be argued independent. People have partnerships with all kinds of things which are cited as sources here. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. ^ Will Goodman (February 23, 2011). "Literal "Dead Island" trailer: This time with singing & LOLs (Video)". CBS News seems to be a side blog on site called 'The Feed', site is just a stream of viral videos with a few sentences on each one
No point here. Independent source. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. Lewis Wallace (November 9, 2012). Literal Iron Man 3 Trailer Makes Fun of Tony Star’s Woes. Wired. Retrieved February 20, 2013. seems to have got original lead from buzzfeed
Well change it to Buzzfeed then; either way, it's still independent. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. Liz Shannon Miller (October 1, 2010). "Vin di Bona, Phil DeFranco, Toby Turner Team for CuteWinFail". Gigaom. online only digital blog
No point. Independent source. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. Joshua Cohen; Sam Gutelle (November 30, 2012). "CuteWinFail Fires Toby Turner". Tubefilter. same as above, there are also four more from the same Tubefilter source
The site has a WP page, and it is independent. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. Michelle Jaworski (July 17, 2012). "YouTube superstars team up for NODE gaming channel". DailyDot needs closer look
What? Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. Andy Greene (November 5, 2012). "Synchronicity Entertainment Debuts with 3 New Horror Films on Slate". Famous Monsters of Filmland. press release, not primary source
Fine, there are more for this film. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. Bill Keveney (June 25, 2012). "'Annoying Orange' joke is on Cartoon Network". USA Today. half a sentence mention in article about show
The mention provides the info, what's the problem? Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. Bridget Flynn (August 8, 2009). "MTV event attempts to rally Normal". Pantagraph.com tiny mention in local news story
Again, regardless of size, it still provides the info. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  1. "Toshiba Laptops & MTVN Set Me Free!". MTV. Archived from the original on August 31, 2009. dead site, from archive looks like a blog of his, primary source
Not 100% on this. Andre666 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

The quality of the very few third-party sources here is really bottom of the barrel...--JacktheHarry (talk) 13:51, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

You are a pointless waste of space. I understand what you're doing, but don't fucking devalue my hours of hard work with your shitty attitude. This is why people hate Wikipedia. Andre666 (talk) 17:45, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
How is there any point in putting the citation needed tag on so many bits of information which are cited in numerous places? You are taking an awful literal approach to Wikipedia referencing which I hope is abolished as soon as possible. Andre666 (talk) 17:47, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
Now, keep calm and don't attack the guy. Also, wouldn't saying to not "fucking devalue your hours of hard work" come close to WP:OWN? Anyway, if you think the bits with the tags are already sourced, then provide the refs with the <ref name="" /> coding. ZappaOMati 20:35, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
I'm not saying that I own the article, but I'm just sick of jumping through hoops for an admin who is unsalting the article, providing references and everything and then having it created, to be told be someone who seems to have been on Wikipedia less than a year that the article is complete bullshit. What's the point in anyone creating anything? Andre666 (talk) 10:44, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

I believe none of these sources have significant coverage enough to establish notability of the subject, and most of them are not reliable sources, either. MarshallKe (talk) 22:54, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Article needs more secondary sourcing

I've added {{BLP primary sources}} because the article appears to rely too heavily on YouTube as a source. MarshallKe (talk) 23:17, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Music Discography and "Dead Island: No Retreat" Live Action Short

Since Toby has actually a fairly large discography, shouldn't there be a section for his music works? listing the names and the types of song it is (Literal Trailer, Parody etc.). And also for the Web section under his Filmography shouldn't there be the latest "Dead Island: No Retreat" Live Action Short (Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbrKIDv9wZ4) since he stars as a main role. SilentDan297 20:50, 7 May 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by SilentDan297 (talkcontribs)  Done

I initially added the discography to the article when it was being relisted against deletion, but I felt it looked too large and out of place. It has now been added though, which I think is a good decision in the interest of completion. Andre666 (talk) 18:13, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Protection extension

I noticed that protection was recently placed on the article for a short period of time, but since it was lifted the vandalism has returned, including a recent edit which included what purported to be the subject's address. I am just wondering whether this is enough to warrant indefinite protection, as vandals are clearly rife on this article? Andre666 (talk) 08:21, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Just got protected today. ZappaOMati 01:00, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

someone needs to fix this. His first vid wasn't "Click" 86.191.192.126 (talk) 19:20, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Please add in the collaborations section that there may be a collaboratiojn in the future with Felix Kjellberg,a.k.a. PewDiePie. Refrence his name to the article on him, as this video indicates(www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpQYp35a7KE‎)that there will be a collaboration. Oh, and please add the Trapped in My Dog's Commercial (www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxnyWwLNVfs) to then discography. Legendarylink101 (talk) 17:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately we can not put something like this in an article with just a YouTube reference, as incredibly exciting news as it is! "Trapped in My Dog's Commercial" has not been released outside of YouTube, so it does not qualify for the discography. Thanks for your interest, though :) Andre666 (talk) 18:53, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

People don't seem to.be paying attention. Click wasn't his first vid. He did loads of covers and vlog type vids. He just took.them all down. And why does it say he has four accounts? What's the fourth? 86.191.192.62 (talk) 23:24, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

There is no reliable source for this though, so we can not add it the first video on his account is the Click one. The fourth account he has is youtube.com/toby, although like I stated in the article he does not use it. Andre666 (talk) 09:43, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

is there really a town called Niceville?

I googled and googled - no finds. Did Toby just make that up? 93.219.182.191 (talk) 05:38, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

It exists: see here. ZappaOMati 07:40, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
You... didn't Google very hard. Andre666 (talk) 18:49, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Yes. There is a town in Niceville. I lived there. I've been to the places in Niceville that Toby showed in his videos. 184.5.46.106 (talk) 16:12, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

minor problems

So, I noticed this while reading and I can't freakin fix it. It says "Toby Turner first joined YouTube  on May 14, 2006, when he created a channel under the name of "Tobuscus".[1]" He joined Youtube under "Toby" in October 2005 (I can't remember the day). Also, Click wasn't his first vid. I remember back when he only had a few subscribers and we'd do covers and vloggy things. He just used to take them down ALOT. Anyway, sorry about all this, it's just nice to chip in. He was my best friend back in College and we used to do vids together. 86.175.249.2 (talk) 00:51, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for the comment. He has, however, informed me that Tobuscus was his first channel, and he later obtained Toby and TobyTurner from different users who had signed up with those names. I will reword the Click video fact slightly. Andre666 (talk) 17:15, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, how could I have forgotten that? And he only posted a couple of vids to Toby. I was just on it and was alittle thrown by the date. It's a pity it's impossible to source deleted vids, he did have a habit of taking them down, otherwise, we could prove that click wasn't first. Thank you very much all the same, for the reply. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.175.249.2 (talk) 23:01, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Signature phrase not complete

The signature phrase is not complete.

This:

| signature phrase = "Intro/outro of darkness, then redness, then whiteness"
"Hello once again, audience"
"Bless your face"

Should be changed to this:

| signature phrase = "Intro/outro of darkness, then redness, then whiteness"
"Hello once again, audience"
"Bless your face. If you sneezed in this video, bless you."

Tenny1028 (talk) 21:55, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

It's actually "sneezed during this video", and "Bless your face" is enough for these purposes otherwise we could go on forever with signature quotes! Andre666 (talk) 10:31, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Toby Turner has 2.017 million subscribers, on his thread it says 15 million subscribers. so i was wondering if you can fix that Amitcohn (talk) 13:45, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

The channel to which you are referring is youtube.com/TobyTurner. This is not his main channel -- he has two others, youtube.com/Tobuscus and youtube.com/TobyGames, which have more subscribers. Added together, the figure exceeds 15 million, hence the measurement. Andre666 (talk) 14:07, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
