Namco was a Japanese video game developer and publisher headquartered in Ōta, Tokyo. It was founded in 1955 by Masaya Nakamura as Nakamura Seisakusho, a producer of coin-operated amusement rides for department stores.[1] His company entered the video game industry in 1974 after it acquired the struggling Japanese division of Atari. Namco's first original video game was Gee Bee (1978), while its first major hit was Galaxian (1979).[2] The company achieved considerable success with Pac-Man (1980),[1][3] one of the highest-grossing games of all time.[4] Namco continued its success in arcades and later home video game consoles, where it became a major contributor for the Family Computer and PlayStation.[5][3]

Namco was best known for its classic arcade games and 3D arena fighters. Its best-selling franchise was Tekken with over 49 million copies sold worldwide,[6] while its highest-grossing franchise was Pac-Man with over US$12.8 billion in revenue generated.[4] The company was a prominent developer in the arcade industry, having produced over 300 arcade games since 1978. Namco merged with toy maker Bandai on September 29, 2005 to form Bandai Namco Holdings and subsequently Bandai Namco Entertainment.[7] This list features all video games developed and/or published by Namco until its dissolution in 2006.
