Ancient Greek
Etymology
Reduplication from δύο (dúo, “two”), with a suffix -μος (-mos); compare ἀμφίδυμος (amphídumos, “double”). Analogical formations like τρίδυμος (trídumos) show that this word was connected with δίς (dís, “twice”), at least at a later date.
