Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Slavic *moltъ, from Proto-Indo-European *molh₂-to-, from *melh₂-. Doublet of млат (mlat), a borrowing from Old Church Slavonic. Cognate with Latin malleus.
Compare typologically кий (kij), кия́нка (kijánka), кува́лда (kuválda) (<< Proto-Indo-European *kewh₂-).
