Etymology
From Classical Mongolian ᠬᠥ᠋ᠪᠡᠭᠦᠨ (köbegün), from Middle Mongol ᠺᠥ᠋ᠪᠡᠺᠦᠨ᠌ (köbekün), from Proto-Mongolic *köbexün (“child; son”). Doublet of хөвүүн (xövüün). Cognate with Buryat хүбүүн (xübüün), Kalmyk көвүн (kövün), etc. Etymologically related to хүүхэд (xüüxed), analyzeable as *ke’ü-n (“child”) + *-ken (diminutive suffix).
