Etymology
From դաշն (dašn, “gentle, soft”) + ամուր (amur, “strong”). Calque of Italian pianoforte, composed of piano (“soft”) + forte (“loud, strong”) (so called because of the ability to vary the tone of the piano, as opposed to harpsichord).
