Etymology

The stem is մանու- (manu-), inherited from Proto-Indo-European *mn̥(H)u-, from *men- (“small”), whence also մանուկ (manuk). Cognate with Ancient Greek (Hesychius) μάνυ (mánu, “small”), Old Irish menb (“small, tiny”) and Sanskrit मनाक् (manāk, “a little”).
