Borrowed from Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾwʾm), [script needed] (ʾʾwʾm /⁠āwām⁠/, space of time; epoch; occasion), from Old Persian *abigāmā f (time), from 𐎠𐎲𐎡𐎹 (abi-, towards) + Proto-Indo-European *gem- (to press, to grasp). Also borrowed in إِبَّان (ʔibbān).
