Inherited from Proto-Turkic. Cognate with Kipchak اُكِلْ (ükil) perhaps a Bulgar borrowing, and also Khorezmian Turkic وُكوش (üküş), Ottoman Turkish [script needed] (öğüş), Azerbaijani yügüş.
