From Aramaic נִיפְטָא (nip̄ṭā) / נַפְטָא (nap̄ṭā) / ܢܷܦܛܳܐ (nep̄ṭā) / ܢܱܦܛܳܐ (nap̄ṭā), from Akkadian 𒉌𒆳𒊏 (napṭu, naphtha).
