Common Northwest Semitic, from Aramaic שְׁלָמָא (šəlāmā); compare Hebrew שָׁלוֹם (shalóm), Phoenician 𐤔𐤋𐤌 (šlm), Arabic سَلَام (salām) and Ugaritic 𐎌𐎍𐎎 (šlm /šalāmu/).
