    From Proto-Indo-Iranian *kr̥náwti (to do, make), from Proto-Indo-European *kʷr̥-néw-ti ~ *kʷr̥-nw-énti, from *kʷer- (to do, make). Cognate with Avestan 𐬐𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬥𐬀𐬊𐬌𐬙𐬌 (kərənaoiti, makes, does).
