Etymology
Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀩𑀳𑀼𑀢𑁆𑀢 (bahutta), from Sanskrit बहुत्व (bahutva, “abundance”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰenǵʰ- (“thick”). The development from a noun to an adjective was influenced by Prakrit 𑀅𑀳𑀼𑀢𑁆𑀢 (pahutta-), from Sanskrit प्रभूत (prabhūta, “come forth; abundant”). Compare Bengali বহুত (bohut), Gujarati બહુ (bahu).
