From Proto-Indo-Iranian *snušás (“daughter-in-law”), from Proto-Indo-European *snusós (“daughter-in-law”). Cognate with Persian سنه (sonoh), سنهار (sonhâr), Latin nurus, Ancient Greek νυός (nuós), Old English snoru.
