First attested in the Yongbi eocheon'ga (龍飛御天歌 / 용비어천가), 1447, as Middle Korean ᄆᆞᅀᆞᆷ (Yale: mòzòm). Middle Korean /z/ implies an Old Korean */s/, hence the original form is *mosom, written in Old Korean as Old Korean 心音.
