Etymology

Possibly from two different stems, later confused, mainly Proto-Athabaskan *tsəz (to become extinguished) and Proto-Athabaskan *tsa̓z (to be apprehensive, fearful).

Compare also -TSEED (sink, soak), which may be cognate with this root.
