Suffix

-nám

1. (personal conditional suffix) Forms the first-person singular present tense of verbs (conditional mood, definite conjugation).

   ‎olvas (“to read”) + ‎-nám → ‎olvasnám (“I would read”)

   Ha lehet, az eredeti nyelven olvasnám ezt a könyvet. ― If possible, I would read this book in the original language.

  -nám is added to most back vowel verbs

  ‎vár (“to wait”) + ‎-nám → ‎várnám (“I would wait”)

  -ném is added to most front vowel verbs

  ‎kér (“to ask”) + ‎-ném → ‎kérném (“I would ask”)

  -anám is added to back vowel verbs ending in two consonants or in a long vowel + t (exceptions: áll, száll, varr, forr, lát)

  ‎mond (“to say”) + ‎-anám → ‎mondanám (“I would say”)

  ‎tanít (“to teach”) + ‎-anám → ‎tanítanám (“I would teach”)

  -eném is added to front vowel verbs ending in two consonants or in a long vowel + t

  ‎fest (“to paint”) + ‎-eném → ‎festeném (“I would paint”)

  ‎segít (“to help”) + ‎-eném → ‎segíteném (“I would help”)
