Back-formation from landscape, the suffix representing Middle Dutch -schap (“the English suffix -ship, e.g. of friendship, kinship, ownership”), from Old Dutch -skap (“-ship”), from Proto-Germanic *-skapiz (“-ship”), from *skapaz (“shape, form”).
