Etymology
Borrowed from Ancient Greek ἀναστατικός (anastatikós, “rising-up, reviving, anastatic”, adjective). The rose of Jericho, a plant which can remain in dry, estivated state for a long time, appears to come back to life and unfurls when exposed to moisture. From this follows the name Anastatica and its status as an old Christian symbol of resurrection.
