Dutch
Etymology
First attested as castert wert in 1294. Likely derived from Middle Dutch *caster (“type of tree, potentially chestnut”) with collectivising suffix -t. As no traces of Roman settlement have been found near the hamlet, a link to Latin castra (“encampment”) is unlikely. Compare Castelré, Castenray, Casteren and Kasteren.
