Etymology

Named after the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius (1701–1744), who proposed the scale in 1742.

  1. A scale for measuring temperature, with the freezing point of water defined as zero degrees (0 °C) and the boiling point of water defined as one hundred degrees (100 °C).
