Domm

See also: domm
Luxembourgish
Etymology
If inherited from Middle High German, the form requires a shortening ū > u and additionally either a gemination (*dumme) or, less likely, an early shift to the strong declension (*dum). Another possibility would be that the shortening happened later, when the diphthongisation of ū had already begun (as [uː] > [ou̯] > [o]). Otherwise see the main lemma.
Pronunciation
Noun
Domm m (plural Dommen, diminutive Dëmmchen)
- (especially northern Luxembourg) alternative form of Daum (“thumb”)
