Etymology
First attested as greflichemer buerscap in 1340. Compound of Old Dutch Gravilo (a personal name) with collectivising suffix -ing- and heem (“home, settlement”). The second component was later reinterpreted as kamp (“enclosed pasture”). Compare Greffeling, Breklenkamp, Denekamp, Gölenkamp, Haftenkamp and Höcklenkamp.
