Etymology

The same handshape for 3@Side-PalmForward (three) with the same orientation and similar movement as the other number signs from SmallO@Side-PalmBack Release (eleven) through OpenB@Side-PalmBack Flatten (fifteen).

Production

  • This one-handed ASL sign is produced as follows:
    1. Posture the dominant hand in the “open U” (Hu) handshape about half an arm’s length in front of the shoulder, dominant palm facing back.
    2. Repeatedly flatten and extend the index and middle fingers, keeping them together.
    3. Posture the dominant hand in the “open A” handshape about half an arm’s length in front of the shoulder, dominant palm facing back.
