Usage notes
This term is generally used to describe discrimination against Muslims and Islam on the basis of fear, misunderstanding, ignorance or political bias. However, it is sometimes abused by Islamists and extreme Muslims, who claim that opposition to their beliefs is also opposition against Islam in general.
