From Middle High German mōnōt, mānōt m or n, from Old High German mānōd m, from Proto-West Germanic *mānōþ. See also Mond. Compare Old Saxon mānoth, Dutch maand, English month, Danish måned.

1. month (division of a year, usually one twelfth ≈ 30 days)
