    Named after French mathematician, mechanician and physicist Siméon Denis Poisson.

    Poisson effect (plural Poisson effects)

    1. (materials science) The tendency of a material to deform in the directions perpendicular to that of an applied force. The effect is quantified by a material's Poisson's ratio.
