Etymology

"Algebraic" would refer to the fact that a two-element Galois field, ${\displaystyle \mathbb {F} _{2}}$ adjoined with some variables forms a polynomial algebra, ${\displaystyle \mathbb {F} _{2}[x_{1},...,x_{n}]}$.
