Noun

anarchy server (plural anarchy servers)

  1. (video games) A player-run server or world (most commonly in the context of Minecraft) with virtually no rules, allowing total freedom for actions like hacking, griefing, PvP, stealing, and exploiting, creating a chaotic "wild west" environment where survival is difficult and the goal is often to endure or exploit the lawlessness for personal gain.
    • 2021, Eve, Martin Paul, Warez: The Infrastructure and Aesthetics of Piracy, page 45:
... the oldest-running “anarchy server,” 2builders2tools (2b2t). This server is essentially a multiplayer Minecraft environment where there are no rules. This anarchy has led to a whole swathe of media coverage and the assertion from at least one participant that “exploring 2b2t is like archaeology. [...] The server has seen Nazi propaganda and cultures of destruction, and it is generally highly nihilistic.
    • 2024, Mojang, chapter 3, in The World of Minecraft, page 50:
The oldest and most infamous anarchy server is 2b2t, which launched not long after Minecraft, in 2010. Now over 20 terabytes in size, its world is a nightmare frontier of deadfalls, lava flows, trashed bases, and hate speech.
