bedplate (plural bedplates)

  1. (engineering) The foundation framing or piece, by which the other parts are supported and held in place; the bed.
    • 1958 April, “British Railways First Main-Line Diesel-Hydraulic Locomotive”, in Railway Magazine, page 265:
      They are mounted on bedplates which are flexibly mounted to the underframe.
