bluetoothing (uncountable)

  1. (slang) The practice of sharing the effect of an injected drug by using the needle to extract the blood from one recipient and then to inject it into another.
    • 2020, Ryan Blumenthal, chapter 10, in Autopsy: Life in the trenches with a forensic pathologist in Africa, Jonathan Ball Publishers, →ISBN:
Nyaope users inject themselves with the drug and then draw their own blood and pass the syringe to others who hope to get a high. This is called bluetoothing. Obviously, this is a dangerous and foolish practice.
    • 2024, Kurt Ellis, chapter 19, in Catriona Ross, editor, Deadly Benefits, Penguim Random House South Africa, →ISBN:
After a second, the teen redrew the plunger and the syringe turned red with his blood. He withdrew the needle and handed the syringe over to someone who looked even younger. The second teen stuck the needle into his own arm and pushed the tainted blood into his vein. Bluetoothing, as this practice was called, was something Skellie knew about but would never try himself.
    • 2025 October 5, Gavin Butler, “‘They’re not just sharing needles, they’re sharing blood’: How HIV cases soared in Fiji”, in BBC News, BBC:
Ms Volatabu says there is a “drastic shortage” of needle-syringe sites, which is fuelling dangerous practices like needle-sharing and bluetoothing and putting the onus on NGOs to distribute syringes as well as condoms.
