From Ancient Greek βόθρος (bóthros, a pit) + -idium.

bothridium (plural bothridia)

  1. An outgrowth from the scolex of some tapeworms that is used for adhesion.
  2. In chelicerates, a projecting cup constituting the trichobothrium.
