English

Noun

bus stand (plural bus stands)

  1. (transport, UK, e.g. in London) a type of bus stop, usually at the terminus of a route, where a bus can wait between journeys. Buses normally do not pick up passengers there, rather boarding takes place at a designated stop nearby.
    • 1955 May, Rev. A. W. V. Mace, “An Irish Journey—1”, in Railway Magazine, pages 303-304:
In the station yard, rollers were preparing a site for a bus stand, where formerly the terminus of the Tralee & Dingle Railway had been.
  2. (transport, India) A bus station or bus depot, usually with a shelter over the top.
