Etymology
Palatalized variant of the earlier casu, through vulgar *kas(j)u, ultimately from Latin cāseus of unknown origin. Cognate with Italian cacio Neapolitan caso, Sardinian casu, Aragonese and Spanish queso, Portuguese queijo, Aromanian cash, Romanian caș. Doublet of casu.
