- 2005, N. S. McBeal, “Dinner and a Drive”, in 12 Am: The Sound of the City, iUniverse, →ISBN, page 49:
- "There are other things you can do with it to. You can hippie flip, where you take E and shrooms. That is a fun trip, very euphoric. Or you can candy flip, with E and acid. But, I'd recommend liking acid before you do that because some people have real bad trips on the shit, and the only thing that keeps them controlled is the E."

- Dangerous Combinations I've tried a candy flip, which is acid and Ecstasy, and a hippie flip, which is mushrooms and Ecstasy. It's fun to combine Ecstasy and other drugs, especially hallucinogenic drugs. You just trip out. -CODY, eighteen
- 2010 January 21, Geoffrey Hunt, Molly Moloney, Kristin Evans, “Part III Drug pleasures risks and combinations”, in Youth, Drugs, and Nightlife, illustrated edition, Routledge, →ISBN, page 163:
- I'm the type of person that likes to keep ... I like to keep my drugs separate. ... I just like pure experiences. ... I don't really like to mix anything, that's why I like to do nitrous ... while I'm sober, 'cause it's a pure experience of doing nitrous. ... I don't wanna hippie flip [ecstasy and mushrooms] or candy flip [ecstasy and acid] ... because ... I really don't wanna that much. ... So why would I wanna intensify my trip, you know? That's all.
- 2019 February 8, James Nolan, “‘Kitty Flipping’ and the Psychonaut Obsession with Mixing Drugs”, in Vice, archived from the original on 21 May 2025:
- CANDYFLIPPING: LSD AND MDMA The most popular flip worldwide, along with the oldest, candyflipping has been a thing since the 1990s. Usually described as having life-changing properties (good and bad) it can often heal or fuck you up, depending on the amount you take. Users like to take the MDMA about four hours after the LSD, riding the acid’s peak before cranking up the elation. One big problem is the number of posters on message boards like Reddit whose first time doing acid is while candyflipping. This is obviously ill-advised, yet tallies with online drug culture’s move towards extremes. Indeed, in an environment where Xanax “bartards” get mythologised and “psychonauts” compete over who’s had the biggest ego death, a regular old acid trip does seem a little pedestrian.

- 2024 April 10, The Bunk Police, “Before You Nexus Flip, Here’s What to Know”, in BunkPolice.com, archived from the original on 17 May 2025:
- Is Candy Flipping similar to Nexus Flipping? Whether Candy Flipping or Nexus Flipping, the user should approach either experience with caution. The same people who may have adverse effects from Nexus Flipping would also be more likely to have adverse effects with Candy Flipping. Both combinations will create intensified effects, and both doses should be lowered when combining two substances, whether for Candy Flipping or Nexus Flipping. With Candy Flipping, most people recommend taking the LSD first, followed by the MDMA a few hours later, and that the reverse may cause a bit more of an unpleasant experience. Taking the substances in this order allows for the longer LSD duration to flourish, the potentially overwhelming compounding of come-ups to be avoided, the likelihood of upping the dose (while on MDMA) to decrease, and the MDMA comedown to feel easier.
- 2024 February 16, Suzannah Weiss, “Nexus Flipping: What Happens When You Combine MDMA and 2C-B”, in Double Blind Magazine, archived from the original on 11 December 2024:
- Many psychedelic enthusiasts have engaged in “flipping” of some sort — that is, taking MDMA alongside another substance. The most common form of this is candy flipping, or combining MDMA with LSD, leading to euphoric and insight-producing trips. Hippie flipping, where molly is taken alongside mushrooms, provides a similar effect. Some have also heard of kitty flipping, or mixing MDMA and ketamine. For a less well-known combination, some are mixing molly with a synthetic psychedelic called 2C-B, a combination known as nexus flipping.
