Borrowed from Malay jeruk, from Javanese ꦗꦼꦫꦸꦏ꧀ (jeruk), from Old Javanese jruk, probably from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kruuc ~ *kruəc (“citrus”). Compare Khmer ក្រូច (krouc, “citrus fruit, orange”) and Thai กรูด (grùut).
