deckplate (plural deckplates)

  1. (nautical) A watertight plate (purlin) at the edge of a deck.
  2. A plate forming a deck in non-nautical applications.
    • 1958 September, “Swindon's First Main-Line Diesel Locomotive”, in Railway Magazine, page 648:
      The fuel for the engines and boiler is carried in four tanks of equal capacity below the deckplate between the inner axles of the bogies, in spaces formed by the plates of the underframe.
