double dig (third-person singular simple present double digs, present participle double digging, simple past and past participle double dug)

  1. (horticulture) To remove a spade's-depth of topsoil, then loosen the exposed subsoil with a fork, before replacing the topsoil, done in order to improve heavy or compacted ground for planting.
