Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اكسیك (eksik), from Old Anatolian Turkish اكسك (eksük), from Proto-Turkic *egsük, a derivation from Proto-Turkic *egsü-. Cognate with Azerbaijani əskik, Old Uyghur 𐽰𐽷𐽻𐽳𐽷 (ʾkswk /⁠egsük⁠/).
